Background of the Study

Digital peer mentorship has emerged as a powerful tool to enhance learning outcomes in secondary schools. In Makurdi Local Government Area, Benue State, the integration of digital technologies into education has opened new opportunities for students to engage in peer mentoring relationships that transcend traditional face-to-face interactions. Digital peer mentorship leverages platforms like social media, educational apps, and messaging services to facilitate communication and collaboration among students, regardless of physical barriers.

Peer mentorship has been proven to improve academic performance, boost motivation, and enhance problem-solving abilities, particularly when mentors and mentees engage in meaningful, consistent exchanges. By incorporating digital tools into this process, students can have greater flexibility and access to mentoring support. Digital peer mentorship programs are especially beneficial in regions where traditional mentorship models may be hindered by large student populations, limited resources, or geographical distances.

Despite its potential benefits, there is a lack of empirical studies examining the effectiveness of digital peer mentorship in secondary schools in Nigeria. This study seeks to evaluate the impact of digital peer mentorship on learning outcomes, focusing on how it affects students’ academic performance, engagement, and self-confidence.
